Travel Information

Journey Accommodation
All accommodation is based on the sharing of twin rooms. Single-occupancy rooms are usually available at a supplement of £20.00 per night, per person. We use hotels with en-suite (private bath or shower) facilities and all are notable for their warm welcome, ambience and cuisine. Fine examples are the four-star Hotel Ariane in Ypres, the three-star Hotel St Claude in Peronne, the three-star Hotel Belfort in Poperinge and the three-star Hotel Beatus in Cambrai.

Travel
For the majority of our groups of seven or under, we use one of our air-conditioned VW Transporter Shuttle people carriers.

A medium-sized coach is used for groups of 10 to 15 guests.

We engage 2 local run businesses, Hodson Coaches and PC Coaches, for most of our larger transport requirements. Their regular drivers know the Western Front battlefields particularly well. They are all interested in the history of the period and share our commitment to high-quality service and standards.

Channel Crossing
We use the Dover to Calais ferry crossing, or Eurotunnel crossings from Folkestone to Calais on all of our Western Front and Normandy tours.  The ferry crossing takes 75 minutes, and breakfast is provided on board. We regularly use the following operators.

Points of Departure
Our tours depart from Dover between 0700 and 0930 hours on the first day and end at Dover between 1700 and 1800 hours on the final day. We usually cross the channel by ferry but if circumstances or client preferences so require, we may use the Channel Tunnel instead.

We can arrange Bed and Breakfast accommodation at Faversham, where vehicles may be left for the duration of the journey. An additional charge may be required for secure vehicle parking at some Dover Guest Houses. Guests will be responsible for Bed and Breakfast charges but we usually collect guests and convey them to the Ferry terminal, returning them after the journey if appropriate. Alternatively, if desired, we can meet guests at the Ferry terminal, where secure parking is available at a charge.

Travel Insurance
It is a condition of booking that travellers are covered by comprehensive travel insurance and do not travel against medical advice. It is recommended that insurance cover is in place at the time of paying the deposit so as to provide cancellation provision.

Passports
Please don’t forget that it is your responsibility to ensure you are in possession of a valid passport, which has six months to run following the completion of your battlefield tour.

Medical Treatment in France & Belgium
It is essential that British citizens are in possession of a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). On 1st January 2006 this replaced the old E111 form for providing for reciprocal health-care throughout Europe. An application pack for the card is obtainable free from post offices.
