David - just wanted to say thank you and your staff for looking after my clients Ted and Robin Kuzen - here's some of their comments:

"The Bartlett's Battlefield Tour followed by the Bespoke Tour in Normandy were extraordinary.  I don't think you could have picked a better tour company for us.  There was a lot to absorb and think about because we saw so much and we had a fun group."

I hope that I can put more business your way - I'm happy to recommend and send out marketing information if you have any promotional materials that I could disseminate to my client database.

Regards,

Ron

David

I hope you are in the process of recovering from taking 'The Lake District Five' on tour.  I did my 12 hour stint down t'mine yesterday and today and am looking forward to a bit of a rest now.

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed our trip. You said that seeing Philippe's tank would be a highlight and it certainly was for me. I like the fact that you have been going to the battlefields for so long that you have been able to build up these contacts and we receive the benefit of their passion and expertise.  My aunt will be interested to hear about James Constable as she was married to his eldest son and got to know him before he died in 1944.

I hope that the rest of the year is successful for you.

Best wishes

Tracey

Hello David,

Already I'm looking forward to my fourth journey with Bill and Bartletts, the company that takes me to battlefields and cemeteries other operators don't reach.  Who else provides personalized itineraries with detailed research and documents concerning individual soldiers, graphically explained on the scene of the action by an expert guide, and a comforting hug to cope with the emotion?  On my third visit to the Western Front, last month, we were still uncovering new information about my uncles who fought in the Great War, and following in their footsteps.  And I know that next time Bill will have yet more details relevant to my father's family.

Best wishes,

June

Hello David …

Just following up on our trip now that I'm back to work and time zone adjusted ….

In short… it was "fantastic" and exceeded all our expectations …

Bill was outstanding ….  more than just a guide, but the embodiment of a true historian.

Travelling and spending time with him was a wonderful heart warming experience and he's a one of the most genuine people I've met in a very long time.  His knowledge and intellect being able to discuss almost any wide ranging issue or topic was extraordinary.  He and I are both old soldiers, so we also shared a unique camaraderie common to folks like us with those shared experiences.

In any event, we were sorry to see it end and wish we had more time, but I'm looking forward to next year.

I spoke to Bill about a new adventure next Sept 2012.  Deborah and I would like to (with Bill) do London (Tower, Cathedral, Imperial War Museum etc…), plus Bovington and perhaps other sites he would recommend.  Deborah has never been to England and has a high interest in the Kings and monarchy of England, particularly the Tudors etc.  So, I know she'd really enjoy The Tower plus a lot of other sites that Bill got her interested in.  I'll also take her to some plays in the theatre district etc, so it should be a great trip for her.

Thanks again for your wonderful service, combined with Bill's expert delivery …

Regards,

Doug

Hello David,

My clients and I are now all back from our respective trips and I wanted to drop you a quick line to thank you so much for all your assistance in putting together what my clients have called "A trip of a lifetime"!!

They are raving about the trip and have expressed sheer delight in all the arrangements you made on their behalf but most of all on the expertise and professionalism of the guide. They said they all had lumps in their throats when they had to say goodbye at the airport on the last day!!

I know that most of the time clients only send complaint letters, so I am very happy when I can send a note for clients who are so satisfied.

Thanks again and rest assured that I will be back to you if I ever have other clients who may want to see the battlefields. Please extend my thanks to Bill for all his wonderful efforts on behalf of my clients.

Best regards,

Carol

Dear David,

Forgive me, I have been remiss in taking so long to write; however, Friday, 11-11-11 was profound. Only since our tour of The Western Front with your company and Chris Wesley as our guide has this date had implicit implication. The force of its effect in 1918 has been seared into my psyche.

Last Friday, as I remembered Great-Uncle David and my first husband both of whom died in war, I wished I had been standing at The Menin Gate. However, the astounding impact that the tour had on me and the resulting stories I told to family and friends in Belfast has set in motion a plan to be at The Menin Gate on the 31st July 2017 for Uncle David’s 100th anniversary. In exacting this promise the words of the poem: “My Family Came,”  which was read to us by Chris, will offer our brave uncle his due respect.

In Chris Wesley you have a wonderful ambassador. For those under his care Chris is an inspiring teacher, and guide, with a great sense of humour, mixed with heart-felt compassion. One would expect a slight sense of complacency from such a guide who has done multiple, similar tours. There was none of that. In fact those of us who were in his charge felt Chris’s integrity,  while during his presentation of the material Chris’s intense compassion and respect shone through.

To those of us who were searching for loved ones, Chris offered astoundingly detailed research. That I was offered the chance to lay a wreath at the Menin Gate in honour of Uncle David was, by far, one of the most moving experiences of my life.  Then, to add to that moving experience was the following-day’s visit to the field where Uncle David was killed. Words are trite. Nothing can explain the depth of emotion that has penetrated my heart. Again, thanks to all of you.

I have no doubt that we will be using Bartletts Battlefield Journeys again. Until then, on behalf of my great uncle and his sister, my grandmother, I thank you and all at Bartletts Battlefield Tours for keeping alive this history. Adding to that the thanks of Pierre and myself.

Sincerely,

Theresa Murphy-Bachoc , Belfast, October 2011

David,

As you know, in 2010 we went to the Western Front and followed the exploits of my great uncles in the First World War with Chris Wesley. In 2011 we decided we would like to travel again with Chris, this time visiting Normandy and paying our respects at the grave of Sue’s uncle, Squadron Leader James Foulsham, and his crew, who are buried together at the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery at Hautôt-sur-Mer, Dieppe. All we knew at that time was that Sue's Uncle Jim had been shot down on 20 July 1944 while leading an attack on a flying bomb site. Both Chris and I carried out some research before we departed on our journey, and thanks to Chris we managed to locate site of the V-1 launch ramp, but there was much more to be discovered afterwards.

I thought therefore that I should write to you, first to thank Chris for all the time he has put in to assist us, and secondly to let you know what has happened since. It started with a letter Chris left on our behalf with the local Mairie in Freulleville. This brought about a response which led to the discovery of two neighbours upon whose properties the aircraft came to earth and a meeting with some of the local residents. Since that time Chris and I have worked together to trace the families of the crew members who died. We have now found seven of the eight families and are still trying to find the last one.

What started as a grave-side visit and a search in the forest for the V-1 launch site has ended up with a large (80-plus-page) volume of the story of the events which has now been shared amongst the families. This has been in no small part due to Chris's enthusiasm, no doubt sparked in part by the fact that he is a retired Squadron Leader and, unusually, he was following a story of airmen. Our "Tome" is not yet complete as contributions are still being received from the families, but what we have achieved in a little less than six months is quite incredible.

And all this because we decided to travel with Bartletts last year. I cannot thank you enough for providing us with the opportunity to complete a record that will ensure those brave airmen are not forgotten.

With best wishes, until we travel with you again.

Bob & Sue Knox , Surrey, June 2011

David,

It has been a hectic time since our return from our Bartlett's battlefields tour. In reviewing the pictures with some family today, we were once again reminded of what a tremendous trip we had. My wife and I wanted to write and provide our thanks for a truly memorable trip to review the sites of the battle of Waterloo and those of the First and Second World Wars.

When our  venture was originally conceived, we knew that the biggest challenge was going to be finding a tour company that could not only cover three separate wars, but do so with a deep knowledge of the protagonists, the tactics, and the weaponry. This was especially so since the couple we were travelling with were ex-military and well informed themselves of the various battles and theatres of war.

Without question Bartletts Battlefield Tours, and of course Bill in particular, met that challenge and, in doing so, exceeded our expectations.

The knowledge, patience, and enthusiasm exhibited by Bill was the difference between a merely interesting trip and an outstanding trip. His unique attributes made the trip truly memorable and enjoyable.

Best regards,

Michael and Dawn

My wife, Marion, and I went on one of your tours recently (September 8-10) to the battlefields of France, and we’d like to say thank you very much for an excellent tour.

Firstly, can we say how much we appreciated your action in changing from the ferry to the channel tunnel. It put Marion’s mind at rest as she was possibly not going to go after seeing the weather forecast for those few days. But your intervention saved the day and she enjoyed herself enormously.

The trip was excellent in so many ways. Firstly, changing to the tunnel gave us a couple of hours extra on our trip. Secondly, the attitude and thorough knowledge of our guide, Michael Kelly, was exemplary — nothing was too much trouble — and what he didn’t know about the First World War in France wasn’t worth knowing! Pius, the research that was done regarding the battle scenes and information concerning my uncle were first class.

We had a wonderful tour seeing an enormous amount and culminating in finding the grave of my uncle Leonard who died in 1918 of gunshot wounds. I’d been trying to visit his grave for a few years but it seemed that no other company went to that part of the Somme, but you turned up trumps. This was a very emotional time for me and I thank you for enabling me to go there. Also, the wreath you gave me to place on the grave was a lovely touch.

The hotel selected was first class. We had a few sombre moments and a lot of laughs with both Michael and the Australian couple who accompanied us.

Once again, thank you very much and we’ll have no hesitation in recommending your company to anyone who is looking for a visit to the Western Front.

Yours sincerely

Dear David,

Thank you very much for a magnificent once in a lifetime experience.

I have on the desk the bookmark of the 59th.  It evokes vivid memories and highlights your detailed research, organisation and kindness shown to Hazel and myself.

There are so many memories packed into the time you so expertly guided us around the battlefields.

I have an emotional moment when I recall walking the area where Dad would have trod in 1916.  I think of the time of pacing out at 120 to the minute!  I only wish as we marched by Peter standing stiffly, that we did not acknowledge him with a respectful 'eyes left', but the Australians were not noted for their respect of rank!

It was a privilege to accompany Peter and Julie as they paid their respects to 'Our Boys', as you probably gathered.  The magnificent experience had an effect.

Thank you again
Hazel & Derek.

Hi David,

Just a big thankyou to Chris, who took us on our recent tour, his research was unbelievable, the accommodation and food choices were 1st class, really enjoyed his company, and appreciated the way he looked after my 84 year old Mum.

Regards

Peter Waterhouse , Western Australia - July 2011

Hi Chris
cc to David.
The family arrived home safely but a bit worn out after all the walking and Jet Lag.
On speaking to them, they had a wonderful and enlightening tour with you and of UK for the short time there. No doubt if other family members decide to do the Somme in the future, you will not need to do more notes but have it all in your head.
Bette said to me that in a way that she was glad that her Father, Jack was injured????? because if he did not finish fighting, then he may well have not survived at all due to the intensity of the battles he was in and just become another statistic on a wall somewhere.
Both she and Peter now realise the predicament they were all in in WW1.
I enjoyed my second trip to the Somme and was envious of the family heading off on this trip. Your handling of the trip information was great and the end result of Jack Hymus diary with the inclusive maps is a memento worth keeping for the future generations.
Thanks again Chris for looking after them
Regards

Dear David

I am writing, rather belatedly, to express my appreciation for all the work you and Michael Kelly put into my recent journey to leper. It was a most memorable experience, one which I shall remember for a very long time. Michael was extremely helpful, informative, supportive and sensitive to the feelings of my self and also those of Elaine and Brian Alexander. We were a really nice little group and got on well together.

I was glad to have been able to go and to learn more about him because all of his siblings have long since passed away and also most of my cousins who might have known something, my mother being the youngest of the family and my not being born until my parents were turned 40.

Thank you, again, for all your help and assistance — I am so glad I have now been able to visit my uncle’s grave, particularly as we shared the same birthday.

I appreciate all the research you have done and to thank you for the file of papers concerning my uncle. This has made very interesting reading and is something I will treasure. It was lovely, too, to be able to lay that poppy wreath, so thoughtfully provided, on his grave.

Also, I should say how much I enjoyed the night’s stay with your sister and her husband. What a lovely house they have in such idyllic surroundings.

Thank you again — it was a pleasure have made contact with you and your thoughtfully

planned journeys.

Yours sincerely

David,

Our trip to Flanders, to visit the grave of my great-uncle who died of wounds in August 1917, was absolutely wonderful.  A very emotional and overwhelming trip for me which was made a truly inspirational visit because of the superb guide we had - Michael Kelly.  His knowledge and understanding of the battles, details of the war graves and memorials, and the villages and towns we visited was first class - more important, he imparted all the info without being boring or repetitive.  The hotel Ariane proved a first class base for the visit, with superb food, and excellent service at the reception desk, bar and restaurant.

I have wanted to make this visit for a long time, but was unsure of the best way to undertake the trip.  I am so glad I decided to use your company for this first visit of any member of the family to James's grave.

Michael ensured that it was memorable, something I will always remember and cherish; laying the poppy wreath, listening to the very appropriate poem which Michael so eloquently read along with the usual traditional words at the small service at the graveside, all enhanced this pilgrimage for us.

Thank you for a truly inspirational visit.

Elaine & Brian Alexander , Portsmouth - July 2011

Good morning Dave.

I just wanted you to know that brother Colin and I have had a most enjoyable, albeit on several occasions deeply emotional, tour of the Somme Battlefields.

This has been my fifth visit and Collin's first. Pat and Don Attwell, our Australian companions, added to the occasion with their constant aussie humour. I  learned another aspect of the area, as a result of concentrating of part of the Australian campaigns
that I had not covered in earlier visits.

Thank you for putting me in touch with Jon and Alison of the Old Blighty who were very pleased to receive the framed print.

Now I pay tribute to Bill.  Bill has been brilliant throughout being friendly, courteous, extremely knowledgeable and most helpful.  I don't have to tell you of his vast knowledge but he was able to answer all questions without hesitation.  Don is a retired pilot so both he and Bill chatted about the various aircraft they had flown in and their experiences.  Another dimension to the holiday.  My particular interest started some time ago with the WW1 poets - again Bill was able to quote some of the poems I mentioned.

Bill is a valuable asset to you.  No doubt you are aware?

Thank you Dave for all your help and organisation.  It has been first class throughout.

Many thanks

Tony & Colin Miller , Boston, Lincolnshire - July 2011

Dear David

Thank you for such a wonderful tour thro the battlefields.  We can't speak highly enough of Bill - he went out of his way to do everything he could.  The tour was the best organised that we have ever been on and I will certainly pass our recommendations to our friends and travel agents when we return to Perth.

Kind regards

Pat & Don

Dear Mr Bartlett,

On behalf of the students, the two subject coordinators and the University of Wollongong, I would like to thank you for your company’s contribution to the Western Front Study Tour. We could not have asked for better. The accommodation, meals and service were first class. I would particularly like to mention Mike Kelly and his contribution to the subject as the tour guide. He became an invaluable part of the subject and was astute enough to realise that this was a study tour where the students were expected to be active participants in the subject, not passive tourists. The success of the subject owes a good deal to him, not only because of his knowledge (which he freely shared) but also because of his enthusiasm for his subject area and his ability to adapt the schedule to meet our needs when needed. I’ll certainly be looking to you for the next Study Tour planned for 2013.

Yours sincerely,

Dear David,

Barrie and I would like to thank you and your excellent guide Chris, for a wonderful
journey to Normandy. We were most impressed with every aspect of our trip, the detail
and organisation of every day was second to none. We enjoyed our stay in the lovely, well
appointed hotel, Hotel Le Clos Normand.

We have already recommended  the Barletts Battlefield Journeys to our friends.

Many thanks for everything, I will never forget my wonderful visit to Normandy.
Kind regards

Dear David,

I have been meaning to write to you for some time to sincerely thank you and Bill McQuade for the excellent work done to make our tour through Belgium and France such a great success. Please excuse the tardiness in my communication; my only excuse is that we have been very busy since our return to Australia and only now have I found time to review the photographic reminiscences of our wonderful trip.

The tour that your group provided significantly exceeded our expectations. We gained a wealth of information about WW1 and the information that Bill provided has enabled us to develop a much greater understanding of the appalling conditions that were often faced by the soldiers during WW1. Our perspective was further enhanced by the personal information that Bill provided about family members at particular locations.

Elizabeth and I would also like to particularly like to thank Bill for his friendly manner, his flexibility in adjusting the schedule to new information as the trip progressed and for the skilful way he transported us between the various places we that visited. The Dawn Service at Villers-Bretonneux was very moving and we were so pleased that this was part of the tour. We enjoyed the personalised nature of the tour, the standard of accommodation and the comprehensive way all our needs were catered for.

Please convey our sincere thanks to Bill. We would have no hesitation in recommending your group to our friends if they expressed an interest in this type of tour.

Thanking you both

Peter & Elizabeth Vickery , NSW,Australia - April 2011

G'day David, how ya goin?
Paul and I wanted to thank you again for the time that we spent with you, we both enjoyed the fact that you spoke to us and treated us as mates rather than customers. I guess we may be a little different to most of the people that you normally take, but we were not made to feel in any way different in fact quite the contrary.
I spose the girls at The Ariane told you that we came back a few days after we left, the reason was that I had promised a girl friend of mine in Australia that I'd say G'day to her great uncle that's on The Menin gate and I'd forgotten about it till we got to Amsterdam so after a couple of days there we had to drive back to pay our and her respects.
Anyway mate I wanted to just say thanks because It's something that'll stay with me forever, not only the places we went but the fella that showed us around.
Tony and Paul

Michael,

Margaret and I have just returned from our Coach Tour/Car Drive of UK and Ireland.  We saw so much that it is still a bit of a blur and France and Belgium seem like ages ago.  As a Tour Guide you are a hard act to follow Michael.

I just wanted to let you know how much we all appreciated your attention to our interests and comfort on our Anzac Day Tour.  I enjoyed every minute of it and found the whole experience more profound than I expected.  One of the nicest things, I think, was finding out what were the interests of the others in the group and becoming involved in their searches as well as my own journey.  I cannot tell you how impressed I was with the speed of your results for Christopher Uhlmann and holding the little ceremony for him, it was unforgettable and I still can't believe that I stood almost on the spot where Thomas fell all those years ago.

Once again, many, many thanks for making our trip so enjoyable and if you are ever coming to Brisbane please let me know, we would love to return the hospitality in some small way.
Fond regards,

David,

We had a fabulous tour in March with BB Tours guided by Chris. The tour surpassed all of our expectations in so many ways. We were a group of six touring the WWI and WWII sites in France for six days. The real challenge was the make-up of our group: we were ½ focused, middle-aged adults and ½ vacation-minded, distracted teenagers.

Chris was more than a guide. He provided insight and leadership. He succeeded in setting the scene by sharing his CD’s, maps, photos, enthusiasm and knowledge. His selections of war poetry read with such solemnity moved us on every occasion. We appreciated his direction and organization and meticulously planned schedule each and every day. We could never have covered the territory or itinerary without his professional guidance.

We did our research by reading, studying and searching the web prior to our trip. We were quite well informed about where we were going and the sites we were going to see and the historical importance. No matter - the meaning would have been lost without Chris and his ability to fill in the blanks. He always set the scene and described the battle details; he summarized the similarities and the differences and their meanings whether it was a battle site, graveyard or museum. We feel so fortunate to have been part of this tour with a history-of-war expert like Chris.

We thank Bartletts Battlefield Tours for providing this valuable service to people interested in learning the history and seeing the aftermath of the World Wars in Europe. Everything from the hotel accommodation and restaurant selections to the war sites - graveyards, battlefields, landing beaches, trenches, tunnels and museums- was carefully researched.
Like all groups ours was unique and challenging; however, the detailed itinerary and sites visited were carefully considered, planned and selected to meet our needs. Chris’s guidance has provided each of us with a deeper knowledge and understanding of the wars and the men who fought.

Sincerely,
Susan and Nancy Devlin, Stewart Prince

Susan & Nancy Devlin , Vancouver, Canada - March 2011

Dear Chris,

I have put off writing because every time I get to the computer the right words seem to escape me in trying to describe what an incredible experience we had with you as our guide. We most certainly made the right decision going with BBJ!

You were so dedicated as our guide. You had planned everything impeccably yet made the trip seem effortless. You were clearly incredibly knowledgable and so passionate about all that we saw and learned about. You really made the trip come to life for us with the CD's with the veteran's first hand accounts of their experiences and your detailed knowledge of the terrain and trenches. When we stood at my cousin's grave and you were able to say just where he would have emerged from the tunnel moments before he died made the experience even more poignant. Also, I can't forget to mention the poems, they were the catalyst to bring out the overwhelming sadness we felt as we stood at the graves and remembered those who had given their lives for our freedom.

You were delightful company with your energy and enthusiasm and perfect company for our group with a mix of both teens and adults. I have already and will continue to recommend Bartletts Battlefield Journeys to anyone and everyone. It was truly a trip of a lifetime for us all. You've changed the way we view both wars, and in fact all wars, forever.

Kindest regards,

Pam

Dear David,

We are now back home in Vancouver but still marvelling about our amazing tour with Chris. Our group of three adults and three teens have all come away with increased knowledge and passion for both the First and Second World Wars and great admiration and respect for our guide Chris. Chris managed to reach out to the teens and adults alike to make the war experience come alive for us. We were all touched on a number of levels.

We were struck from the moment we met Chris that he was organized and personable. He was very comfortable with our teenagers and included them in every aspect of the tour in a natural and age appropriate manner. He was so energetic and dedicated to making our trip an unforgettable and educational experience. We learned so much and equally importantly, have been inspired to keep on learning more about both wars. Our tour experience was more special than I could have imagined. The CD's of veteran's speaking of their experiences first hand, the poetry and his knowledge of the battlefield terrain were beyond impressive.

Thank you for your part in making our tour so fantastic. I was very impressed and appreciative that you reached out to contact me by telephone after my initial email query. It went a long way to making you our top pick. We know without a doubt that we made the right decision with Bartlett's Battlefield Guides. Chris spoke highly of you. Also, it was enjoyable to meet Mike at the Hotel Beatus in Cambrai.

We wish you all the best and will recommend Bartlett's without hesitation.

Sincerely,

Pam Dennis and children

Dear David,
Thank you for your email with details of the 2011 tours.  I will certainly pass the information on to any of my friends who are thinking of doing a battlefield journey next year.
My experience with the Bill McQuade guided Western Front journey in August could not have been better.  Bill's knowledge and his preparedness to "value add" and accommodate every request of the party was outstanding and much appreciated by us all.  I was particularly grateful for the research done and information provided on my soldier of special interest, Howard Stark.
I much enjoyed Bill's company, good humour and his love for military history. Please pass on my thanks and warmest regards and remind him of my offer to provide a bed when he comes to Canberra to see the Australian War Memorial.
My best wishes to you David and all at Bartletts Battlefield Journeys.
Sincerely,
Bruce Stark.

Bruce Stark , Canberra, Australia, September 2010

Dear David,
Firstly, just to say thank you for a well organized and informative trip of the Western Front. Chris, with his easy manner and surpurb amount of information ran a great tour. I know we all got lots out of it. Everything that has been set up such as meals, hotels etc were top class and Steve and I only heard complementry things been said and I guess that is what you want. We enjoyed it from start to finish even though at time I found it so very sad or should one say totally tragic.
Thanks to you and your team.

Dear Chris,
I have not had time as yet to process all I learnt on our tour with you. I know there are a few bits an pieces I need to look at before I send you a copy of Dad's story. I now realize how truly fortunate Harold was to get sick and have to spend 15 months in England. I felt such a sense of lost when I saw so many graves but the numbers of those who have never been found or those unknown in graves has just astounded me and as a mum who has lost a daughter at 17 years of age, I feel so for those mothers who could not bury their sons and know where they laid them to rest.
Thanks so much for an inspiring tour. It certainly impacted on the two of us. Your poems added a very special touch.

Mary Anne O'Reilly

Mary Anne & Steve O'Reilly , NSW, Australia - August 2010

Dear David

Our tour was very professionally organised and visits to cemeteries were educational, quiet, moving and respectful. Being part of your guided tour we gained the background knowledge and understanding thus gaining a greater appreciation of the places that we visited. Access to maps, copies of war diaries and additional background information further enriched our trip.
I came home knowing that I had experienced a very special visit. I am glad that I went and feel closer to a family member who bravely died so many years ago. It was a privilege to be part of a sad but sobering journey and I was most impressed by the sensitivity and respect the tour gave these gallant young men. It was an informative, moving pilgrimage to where two members of my family served in WW1.

Once again many thanks for an experience that I will always treasure,

Kind regards,

Hello David

I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed our recent trip to Flanders and the Somme. From start to finish everything was so well organised.

I particularly valued being able to pay tribute to my great grandfather and great uncle .  The provision of the wreaths and the well chosen poems added to the poignancy.

You are a truly excellent guide and I would not hesitate to recommend you and your company to my friends - in fact I already have.

Best wishes

Tracey Read , Cumbria - October 2010

Dear David,

On behalf of the "Lake District 5", I thought I'd drop you a line to thank you again for a fantastic trip. Like last year, it was superbly organised and the attention to detail and an almost forensic approach to information gathering, meant that we were able again to follow in the footsteps of our ancestors. It was very fortuitous that their records were both intact and so comprehensive and I know that Tracey and Craig were very pleased to find out so much about their relatives. The trip was at times very moving and of course thoroughly absorbing and we enjoyed staying also, at The Ariane in Ypres. As always the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate was emotionally charged, but we were all suitably fortified though by that very good English Whisky!

Like last year, your attentiveness and timely poetry recitals, were much appreciated by us all.  Thank you and hopefully we will return again next year - this time Jane wants to uncover some more relatives who might have fought in the Great War (though not literally)!

Best Wishes,

Ed Ma , Cumbria - October 2010

Hello David,
Just to let you know we had a very enjoyable trip, Bill was absolutely brilliant.  We feel we are experts in 'Operation Market Garden' and loved Bill's wide knowledge.
The hotel was excellent with really great meals.
Many thanks for all your help, we will be back next year with a possible trip to Berlin.

Dear Chris

We made it back to Melbourne last Tuesday after 6 nights in Provence. Thanks very much for your fantastic tour of the WW1 battlefields. It was amazing and very moving to think that we visited that actual places that Will Glasgow and Francis Ninnis were killed and John Glasgow was wounded.

Your knowledge of the WW1 battlefields and thorough research of our relatives background and involvement was greatly appreciated. Thanks also for making the tour interesting for our children. I have been reading the material you gave us. It it great to have such a detailed record of our families involvement in WW1.

Dear David,

I have just got back home to Perth and I wish to express my gratitude to you and Chris Wesley on a wonderful Battlefield Tour.

Right from the start it didn't feel like we were strangers with the group that was on my tour and by the end, it felt like I had come away with some new found friends. Chris was amazing with his stories and took us into the heart of the battles, it was only left up to your imagination of what our soldiers went through. His detail and readings were excellent and his knowledge was superb.

There was laughter and tears and it is something I will never forget. The hotels and food were sensational and nothing was to much trouble if help was needed.

To finally stand before my cousin's grave was a 2 year dream come true for me and Chris really made it that little bit extra by giving me time to sit and have a chat with my soldier.

Thanks again David, it was worth every penny and something I will treasure for the rest of my life.

Thank you Chris you are an asset to the company.

Kindest regards

Hi David,

Hope you and your team are all well. I have been back home a few weeks now and gradually coming back down to earth and getting organised with photos etc.

The Bishop relatives have all been interested in hearing of the Fromelles Commemoration and grateful that the family was represented. On reflection it would be nice to go back and visit when it would hopefully be a lot quieter.  For me, especially being my first time, as well as the special service, there was a lot going on and many new places to see. It was a bit overwhelming at times.

Thank you for a wonderful trip and a great experience. The extra night I stayed in Ypres I attended the Last Post again and was privileged to hear the North Wales Rugby Choir sing and an English school (Spoone) band play. It was very moving. I have done some more reading since my return so still learning.

Many thanks.
